Signing into NHSMail with your Smartcard

This short guide explains how to sign into NHSMail using your smartcard once you have linked your NHSMail and Care Identity accounts together.

Please note this option is only available when accessing NHSMail via a Web Browser.

  1. Located on the login screen for NHSMail, there is now an option to 'Sign in with another account'. This presents the ability to use your Smartcard to sign in instead of typing your e-mail address and password.

  1. Select the 'Log in with my Care Identity' option.

  1. A new page will appear with three options. Please ensure 'Smartcard' is selected and press 'CONTINUE'.

  1. Smartcard authentication will now begin.

  1. Once Smartcard verification has been completed, you will now be signed in and re-directed to the portal page.
